Album Review: Nosebleed - "Dance With The Devil"

Hailing from Leeds, Nosebleed are signed to notorious punk label TNS Records and if you remember some of the bands who've emerged from this stable in recent years such as Pizzatramp and Attack Of The Psychotronic Man, it probably won't surprise you to learn that they follow a similarly vicious stripped-down approach to punk as evidenced when the discordant energy of the title track gets Dance With The Devil off to a suitably breakneck start.

Unsurprisingly, it keeps up its frenetic pace throughout as Nosebleed slam through the 12 tracks on here in half an hour or so. True, they largely don't deviate much from their chosen path of thrashy guitars, clattering drums and snarling vocals but there's an argument that if the formula works then there's no point fucking with it so fair play to 'em. Certainly given the to-the-point nature of these songs, I'd say there's very little danger of you getting bored while listening to this bugger and the likes of Let It Go and Live Die (which sounds like an evil twin of the Knack's My Sharona) are agreeably sharp and vicious slices of thrash-punk. Although a couple of the later tracks do blend into each other a tiny bit, the closing excursion into blues rock of Make Up Your Mind shows a bit of unexpected versatility and signs this one off on a high note.

I get the impression that this lot are the sort of band who, while clearly capable of putting a good set of tunes together in a recording studio, are at their best in a sweatbox live venue with a crowd bellowing along with them. So if this sort of music is your thing, give this a spin and if you like, go and see 'em next time they tour. Although we cannot legislate for loss of one or more shoes in the moshpit.
