Nite Songs Top 100 Albums Of 2022: Part 6 - The Top 10!

Image
Okay, so this is it - the official Nite Songs Top 10 albums of 2022. Enjoy... *** 10.  THE HELLACOPTERS - "Eyes Of Oblivion" A comeback album that thankfully rather than being a faded retread of past glories was a timely reminder of everything that was great about the Hellacopters first time around. With a good mix of lightning precision garage rock and some unexpected sonic twists and turns all backed up by Nicke Andersson being his usual imperious self up front and a returning Dregen firing off the riffs to devastating effect, this was a triumphant return from this seminal band. *** 9. MILES HUNT - "Things Can Change" Recorded during the lockdown, Things Can Change  felt almost like an arm around the shoulder from Milo to reassure us that everything was gonna be alright. With a mix of slower introspective numbers and a couple of heavier interludes which were originally aimed for a Vent 414 reunion that never quite happened, it made for an enjoyably varied album ...

Album Review: Miles Hunt - "Things Can Change"

Interesting fact - the Wonder Stuff were the last band your correspondent saw live (at Shepherds Bush Empire just before Christmas 2019) before lockdown knocked the UK gig scene on its arse for two years. With live music shutting down through 2020 and most of 2021, Miles Hunt's livestream gigs were another thing along with Tim from the Charlatans' Listening Party sessions that helped your correspondent to just about keep his sanity during those dark times and also allowed Milo to roadtest a number of new songs.   It's been a while since we last did a two-part Singles Bar and, to be honest, I was going to hold a few of the releases on the second part of this effort over until June. But eventually I decided sod it, there's some good stuff on here, let's get the word out! Anyway, enjoy... Some proper big hitters to start us off with as Killing Joke  have a new EP out in the form of Lord of Chaos  (🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗) and it sounds just as intimidating as you'd hope/expect with Geordie Walker's apocalyptic grinding riff, Jaz Coleman's "shaman of doom" vocals and Youth and Paul Ferguson's rock solid rhythm combining to create something pretty awesome. B-side Total is similarly ferocious while the EP is rounded off by a couple of mixes including a Youth dub one. It's good to have them back. It's always a pleasure to have some new music from Miles Hunt  to listen to here at the Singles Bar and Things Can Change  (🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗) featuring Laura Kidd aka Penfriend is...
